Slow, focused work

Deep Tissue Massage in Slidell

Choose deep tissue massage when you’d like your therapist to spend more time on a specific area, such as tight shoulders or your upper back. The work is slower and more focused than a Swedish massage. At Relax Station Massage in Slidell, you can choose a 30-, 60-, 90- or 120-minute appointment.

Decide where you’d like the time spent

Come in with one or two priorities. For example, you might point to the area between your shoulder blades after a week at a computer, or ask for more time along one side of your back. Showing your therapist exactly where you mean is often easier than trying to describe it.

Deep tissue work can take more time in a smaller area. If you also want time for your arms and legs, say so up front. Your therapist can talk through how much of your appointment to spend on the focused work and which other areas to include in the remaining time.

Find pressure you can settle into

Tell your therapist how the pressure feels when they begin working on a tight spot. You might want firm pressure across your shoulders and a lighter touch close to the neck. Simple feedback like “a little lighter there” gives your therapist something specific to adjust right away.

If you find yourself holding your breath or bracing against the pressure, ask for a change. Pressure can be adjusted from one area to the next, and you can ask your therapist to move on from any spot. Mention sensitive areas and any positions you’d like to avoid before getting on the table.

Match the appointment length to your plan

A 30-minute session makes sense if you have a short window and one area you want to focus on. In 60 minutes, you can give your therapist a little more room to work on related areas, such as the upper back and shoulders. Ask what can fit when you call or arrive.

Consider a 90- or 120-minute session if you have several areas in mind and want time to work through them at a measured pace. The Deep Tissue Massage listing includes hot stones and essential oil. If you prefer to skip either, mention it when you book or before the session starts.
